SHARCNET has issued a call for Letters of Intent for Round I of SHARCNET’s newly introduced Research Support Programme: Dedicated Programming Support. Deadline for Round I LOI’s is April 30, 2008.



SHARCNET has issued a call for proposals for Round VIII of SHARCNET’s Research Support Programmes: Fellowships & Dedicated Resources. Applications for this round are for Dedicated Resources ONLY. The deadline for Round VIII is April 30, 2008.



SHARCNET is pleased to announce the addition of Nipissing University as its newest academic partner. Originally constituted in 2001 with 7 partners (5 universities and 2 colleges), SHARCNET now includes 17 institutions (14 universities, 2 colleges and a research institute).



SHARCNET is pleased to announce the results of the Round VII competition for SHARCNET Fellowships. With $1.75m in funding requests from 85 applications, this was another competitive round.



Using SHARCNET’s AccessGrid (AG) facilities, UOIT and Trent are pioneering multi-institutional graduate programming for the delivery of the UOIT-Trent Master of Science in Materials Science program.



Supercomputer provides accurate look at violent formation of galaxies -- Researchers using supercomputer simulations have exposed a very violent and critical relationship between interstellar gas and dark matter when galaxies are born – one that has been largely ignored by the current model of how the universe evolved. The simulations reported in the research paper were carried out on the Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET).



A Memorandum of Agreement for Cooperation signing ceremony was held between SSC and SHARCNET on October 31, 2007. The cooperation between the two organizations -- and the “win/win” to be achieved through further collaboration and information sharing -- will improve the development of HPC and certain applications at the national level.



SHARCNET is pleased to announce the results of the Round III competition for SHARCNET Research Chairs. At its meeting on September 14, 2007, the SHARCNET Board of Directors approved the allocation of five new SHARCNET Research Chairs.
