FDTD (Commercial)

Introduction

Employing the industry-proven finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm, FDTD Solutions empowers device and components designers to confront intense and unconventional optical design problems. Rapid prototyping and highly-accurate simulation reduce reliance upon costly experimental prototypes, leading to reduced product development costs and time-to-market.

Supported by Lumerical’s Focus on Emerging Technologies (FET) Program, Lumerical Solutions have been used by research groups at SHARCNET institutions including The University of Western Ontario, University of Guelph and McMaster University, etc.

Licensing

Effective February 3, 2013 SHARCNET NO LONGER possesses the front end FDTD Solutions licence, but the licence for FDTD engines only. Users need to obtain their own front end licenses from Lumerical directly in order to perform pre- and post processing tasks.

Effective February 1, 2010 using SHARCNET’s license for the front end graphical interface on users’ desktop is no longer supported. Lumerical has changed its licensing policy such that client license only supports use of the lumerical front end application CAD (FDTD graphical interface) on SHARCNET’s hardware.

Sharcnet has 10 license seats on which allow ten simultaneous jobs to run. Each job can use an arbitrary number of processors when run in parallel. Before using fdtd one must submit a problem ticket or email help@sharcnet.ca to request joining the Lumerical group otherwise the software will not be accessible. Please check SHARCNET policy regarding commercial software for more details.
