COMSOL (Commercial)

COMSOL Multiphysics (formerly FEMLAB) is a finite element analysis, solver and Simulation software / FEA Software package for various physics and engineering applications, especially coupled phenomena, or multiphysics. COMSOL Multiphysics also offers an extensive interface to MATLAB and its toolboxes for a large variety of programming, preprocessing and postprocessing possibilities. In addition to conventional physics-based user-interfaces, COMSOL Multiphysics also allows for entering coupled systems of partial differential equations (PDEs). The PDEs can be entered directly or using the so called weak form (see finite element method for a description of weak formulation).

Sharcnet does NOT have a comsol license. To use comsol on sharcnet a research group MUST either use their local institutional/departmental license server OR get a license setup with cmc microsystems. To use your local license submit a problem ticket specifying the contact information for your comsol license server administrator so the necessary connection changes can be made. Arrangements are already in place for ALL sharcnet uw_users (note the sharcnet username must match uw username), two ryerson research groups and a group from ubc

Before using the comsol module you MUST submit a problem ticket requesting to join the sharcnet comsol group otherwise the software will not be accessible.

To use the comsol+matlab Livelink features, users also need to submit a ticket requesting to join the matlab group. Matlab is currently not on vdi-centos6, viz10-uwo or viz11-uwo but could be added if its needed. If there are any more questions please submit a problem ticket.

System Versions
dusky 5.3 (, 5.3 Update3), 5.1 (, 5.1 Update1)
gra-vdi (5.3a Update4)

o Sep 22, 2018 Installed comsol/ (5.3a Update4, Build: 348) on, and for accelerated graphic use with tigervnc connections. As with comsol/5.3 this nwer version MUST be used over tigervnc connections when running interactively on viz machines. The full version number is now shown on legacy systems instead of simply 5.3a to differentiate between updates.

o Feb 23, 2018 Comsol/4.4 will be removed from mosaic, orca and the vdi/viz machines on March 1 2018.
