Pros: great materials, well-organized event, very friendly staff. I really hope the event can be holded more often. Cons: fast pace CUDA course. As a student with some parallel programming, I still think it is somehow intense. The slides are good though. A little bit disappointed about the Java parallel programming course.

Great Organization! All the instructors are very helpful. I don't like the idea that MPI and GPU are in parallel sessions. It's better to put the first lecture of them in sequential for people to have some information to choose staying in which session.

My only concern about this program is the lack of marketing. I came across it last week because I was trying to explore what sharcNet offer. I did not even know about sharcNet a month ago. However, I have been a PhD student in distributed systems for 4 years so far ! Great effort but I believe it could help many more people than it does.

Very well organised in terms of topics covered. My only complaint is that in some topics where I personally had no previous experience (like OPEN MPI), I had hard time to follow after the "intro". I guess this is natural and cannot be avoided, but maybe worth considering for next time having a survey in advance, and make two classes (advanced - beginners). Nevertheless, it was an excellent resource of information.

I very much enjoyed it. I would come again if another one is offered in the future.

The pace is a bit too fast. Other than this, it's alright.

Of any conference or summer school I have attended, I found HPC 2015 to be the best. The instructors were very knowledgable, and all were great lecturers. The sessions had an excellent balance of material and practical portions. One issue was that not all lecturers made their slides available to us during the session. Having access to the notes during the class would have made it easier to follow along with the instructor. I am very impressed. The fact that these sessions were free makes was a major bonus. Thank you to all the instructors and organizers for their hard work. I will highly recommend this summmer school to my peers.

The training helps me to see my research work in a better way. I found it awesome for effective use of the sharcnet's facility and open source codes.

Overall very good organization and interesting talks. Only the Bigdata workshop was really a joke and not at all worth the time.

It would be great if the online registration capacity could be larger. When I was registering for the summer school, some sessions were already full. However, I still managed to attend these sessions because there was enough space in the classroom.

You did a great job in this summer school. The only comment of me is about the prerequisites (in some case, it was my fault because of poor background about GPU and higher programming skills levels). I like to know much more about GPU, JAVA and parallel computations. Would you please provide such workshops in lower levels for students of not computer science programs? I thank you again for this workshop and all your supports.

Generally pleased with the content and depth. I found the expectations in exercises were too high, and there was insufficient time (CUDA) but it worked out in the end. I learned from the solution demonstration. I would rather learn the how in a classroom, and try things out at my own slow speed later, rather than feel panicked about getting syntax correct in a rushed exercise. I suggest having a an early session on the breadth of technologies and services, may be even as a earlier one day course, as I came into the course with problems to solve, but no idea what technology to use. Therefore I had to guess as to what sessions to sign up for. Fortunately I was able to corral personal time early with folks and get somewhat on to a trajectory. But again in general, I am pleased and it was time well spent. The personal contact with Western SharcNet folk was most valuable.

Overall, my experience was good. I learn a lot of new techniques that I will apply to any potential problems arising in my research. However, it would be nice to make some sessions more interactive with a focus on hands-on training.

The school was pretty much satisfying. People who don't have any experience can gain basic knowledge about a topic. One thing I would recommend is to put more time on a single topic so that people get enough room to understand the concepts & realize the hand in exercises. In general, it was very good experience for me.

Introductory materials on 'Shell scripting' and 'python' could be documented and shared 2 weeks before the starting date of summer school. In this way, one session could be considered for the 'R' language to do statistical analysis with data analysis.

very valuable lectures on Openmpi and mpi programming.

Course C++ best practices should take more time. 3 hours is not enough to cover all "hidden" possibilities and features. I would like also to have advanced version of courses GPU and MPI programming.

Didn't need so much background on things, would have preferred more technical talks. Found the MPI and version control sessions most helpful. Found registration confusing (possibly didn't read close enough). I hadn't realised that modules in the afternoon were continuations, not repeats of the morning classes.

Thank you for offering a very good opportunity for me to attend Summer school for HPC. The session of Bash scripting is especially featured and well-organized. Many hands on examples make me understand the HPC faster and more efficient.

Had a great experience. The hands on session got me involved in the class and avoid the temptation of being distracted. I had thought that most of the afternoon sessions were a repeat of the morning session; didn't think of them as a continuation of the morning sessions. Indicating a and b may help in the future. Overall, it was good.

This summer school is really helpful. Although I have no programming background, it provides fundamental information about cluster which would help me a lot in doing my project.
