The online registration for the summer school east at Queen's University is now closed. Please contact the organizers if you have any questions.

July 20, 2015

For the Summer School East in Kingston (Queen’s): Attendees, remember to bring a laptop with working wireless and an ssh client, as well as an X-windows installed. For Windows users, we recommend to install MobaXterm. We aim to have all lecture notes uploaded just prior to the sessions.

Most sessions will be a mix of lectures and hands-on. For the MPI, OpenMP, Hybrid, and Posix sessions, we’ll be connecting to HPCVL resources. We’ve made temporary accounts for the duration of the summer school, so no need for a pre-existing HPCVL account. For the GPU and Linux sessions, you will be using SHARCNET resources.

For wireless access, you can use Eduroam (attendees from universities), but we also arrange for a local wireless network.

All sessions will start at 9 am and end at 4 pm, but please arrive 15 minutes early on the day of your first session. Lunch breaks are from 12 pm to 1 pm. Short breaks are left to the instructors. Coffee will be provided, but lunch will not. However, there are many options for lunch on and around campus.

Participants who attend at least 3 days of the school will get a summer school certificate.

If you have any questions, let us know by emailing hartmut.schmider@hpcvl.org.

Please also check the special requirements for certain sessions. We aim to have all lecture notes uploaded just prior to the sessions.

The sessions will be a mix of lectures and hands-on. Except for the CUDA session, you will be using SciNet resources. If you do not have a SciNet account yet, you will be given a temporary SciNet account for the duration of the summer school. For the GPU sessions, you will be using SHARCNET resources.

For wireless access, there are three options:

  • UofT wireless network using your UTorID (University of Toronto attendees).
  • Eduroam (attendees from other universities)
  • If these do not work for you, we will give you instructions on-site on how to connect to a local wireless network.

All sessions will start at 9:30 am and end at 4:30 pm, but please arrive 15-30 minutes early on the day of your first session. Lunch breaks are from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
