21.1 Overview

Considering the breadth of the discipline and the challenges encountered in computing sounds, it is not surprising that a number of computational approaches have been proposed over the years whose sophistication, applicability, and cost widely vary.

FLUENT offers three approaches to computing sounds, a direct method, an integral method based on acoustic analogy, and a method that utilizes broadband noise source models.
