How C++ Maps onto The Hardware and What That Means for Your Code

C is sometimes called a portable assembly language because it maps fairly directly onto hardware. C++ adds several more complex structures to C. While it may be nice to use these features, not understanding how they map onto the hardware may have drastic consequences for the efficiency of your code. Make sure you know how classes, operator overloading, and templating map back to C.
